Military and Veterans
Developing Your Career - Together
David Weekley Homes values our military Veterans’ service to the country, but we also choose to hire Veterans because of the skills and experience they bring to the workforce. We partner with our internal Teams and various external organizations to hire Veterans who share our organization’s core values and drive for excellence to successfully contribute to our Team.
Veterans possess important traits that we seek in candidates, such as:
- Shared values: integrity, desire to be the best, pursuit of excellence, loyalty and servant leadership
- Service attitude
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people
- Leadership skills
- Work ethic
- Goal oriented
- Ability to adapt
While Veterans have proven successful in a variety of positions across the company from the office to the field, some opportunities we’ve found to align well with service experience include Builder/ Construction Superintendent and Warranty Service Representative.
Resume Tips for Veterans
Help us better evaluate how your military background translates to our opportunities by applying the following strategies:
- Have someone without a military background review your resume to ensure it can be understood by civilians
- Modify military terminology and acronyms to civilian terminology
- Include your accomplishments, as well as the actions, skills and traits you used to achieve the end result
- Limit your resume to 1-3 pages
- Share squad or platoon accomplishments and your role in achieving them, along with any quantifiable data that you were responsible for
